Felicia Keeton-Howard, MA, LMHCA
Hi! I'm Felicia. I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Washington and owner of Pursue You Counseling. Counseling is my second career. After working with various non-profit organizations over the years, I found that I was much more fulfilled by direct relationships and connection to those being served rather than other supportive roles I was involved in. Listening to this inner wisdom, I sought my own counseling. This led to the decision to volunteer at the local Crisis Clinic hotline where I discovered a passion for holding space for others in their unique time of need. |
Throughout my time volunteering and during my graduate studies, I worked as a caregiver and case manager for children and adults with developmental disabilities and neuro-diversities. I completed internship at a community mental health agency working with individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction, former incarceration, childhood trauma, chronic pain, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, loss and grief, issues with sexuality and coming out, self-harm, difficulties with life transitions, and chronic mental illness. I have felt honored to bear witness the resilience and bravery of those who decide to seek help and strive to live a more authentic life. I earned a MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Antioch University in Seattle, WA and hold a BA in Nonprofit Leadership Studies from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO.
Outside of my therapy practice I enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends. I enjoy listening to and making music and find it to be a wonderful gateway into my emotional intuition and imagination. As often as my schedule allows, I can be found in nature: at the beach, in the mountains, or walking my dogs Tucker and Edna through our neighborhood.

What to Expect

My approach to therapy begins with a non-pathologizing and anti-oppression lens. My style is thoughtful, playful, and direct. I do not view any human as needing to be fixed, but rather as a whole person with many parts and many different needs. Different parts of us serve different functions, some which are beneficial to you, and others that can stand int he way of our goals. Often different parts of us can feel in conflict with each other or other people in our lives, causing emotional, mental, and physiological symptoms. With my help, you will learn to identify and listen to these different parts of yourself and build healthier relationships with them.
My work is informed by the Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy model, Attachment, and Existential theories. I use a resilience-centered focus which views all parts with self-compassion, gentleness, and curiosity. I will sometimes use more structured cognitive tools informed by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) which can be useful in identification of unhelpful thought patterns and provide you with healthy coping alternatives. My approach will be tailored to your specific needs and preferences. I believe that you are the expert on you, and that therapy can become a transformative relationship which will help facilitate your journey toward authenticity, growth, and healing.
I bring to my practice a strong attention to the impact of social injustice, institutionalized violence and social marginalization on our own lives and the lives of those we love. I seek to respect, encourage and support the pursuit of personal growth and fulfillment of all individuals regardless of age, race, ethnicity, ability, sexual orientation, gender expression and socioeconomic status. I affirm all styles and types of consenting romantic and sexual relationships including consensual non-manogamy/polyamory. I commit to continuous learning and growth in my cultural competence as a human and as a professional.
